Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument

This was our first trip to the Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. There were so many areas to see, that we barely touched the surface. We originally started out with plans to go to the Wave, however we were not lucky enough to get a pass. Since we knew it would be a challenge to get the pass, we had a backup plan for each day. Unfortunately, the area had received quite a bit of rain the few weeks before, so our backup plan was changed....since the road was washed out. Fortunately this area has so much to see, there's always something else to photograph within a couple hours drive. We were really looking forward to a trip to Zebra Slot Canyon. We headed out one morning on our 2+ hour drive to get there and stopped by a ranger station as we got closer. We asked about the slot canyon and the ranger indicated it wasn't recommended....unless we liked to swim. According to him, the water was up to his neck (and he was about 6ft tall), which meant it would be above my head. We asked for an alternative and he recommended Spooky and Peek-A-Boo Slot canyons, which were only about 1/2 mile walk and accessible at this time.

Although this may look like an old road, it is actually the wash the water creates as it runs off the area. The mud here has already completely rolled up.
