Helicopter Ride Over Kauai

Home

Our final full day on Kauai, we decided to take a helicopter tour of the island. We went with Blue Hawaiian Helicopters. This is definitely the best way to see the island. The first photo is a GPS track of our helicopter flight over Kauai. In a few of the photos, you'll notice something that looks like a black shadow (seen on 2nd & 3rd photos). It's actually the helicopter prop.
One of the best reasons to take a helicopter tour is Manawaiopuna Falls. You might recognize this waterfall if you've ever watched the movie Jurassic Park. Since the park is on private property, the only way most people can see it is to rent the movie or take the helicopter ride. The helicopter ride is so much more exciting!
As we flew around the island, everywhere I looked provided a photographic opportunity. I was fortunate enough to be next to the window so I continued to take photos throughout the entire tour.
Another highlight of the helicopter ride is the Napali Coast. This is one of the most beautiful coasts. Mark had planned our day for the flight based on the anticipated weather and time of day. He picked the perfect day and time. The blue sky sprinkled with the white clouds was the perfect setting for the photos. The sun angle was perfect for photographing the coast, providing a wonderful mixture of sun and shadows. Once again, Mark managed to get us to the right location, at exactly the right time! All I had to do was sit back and enjoy the ride and concentrate on the photographs.
