After arriving on Kauai, we headed to the Spouting Horn and then we shot sunset. After the Spouting Horn, we went over to the park down the street and shot sunset. Our last trip to Kauai, in 2009, the weather was perfect. This trip, we learned why it is labeled to garden island(unfortunately we got to see the watering part-since it rained most of the time we were here...and rained HARD).
We had a chance to shoot sunrise at Lydgate State Park.
We tried to stay on the dryer side of the island and headed back to the little park near Spouting Horn. Since it was starting to rain more, several of our group sat under the shelter house and played Yatzee. I wanted to get a photo of the waves so I spent some time down by the water's edge trying to get the rolling wave. Then I went up and joined them in a game of Yatzee....and won!
This flower was just outside our building at the hotel. With all the rain we had, the two streams that usually make up Wailua Falls had become one. We waited for the sun to break out so we could get a mist bow. It kept teasing us and broke out for a split second and then disappeared again behind the clouds.
When we got back to the hotel, we found out that there was a seal resting on our beach. One of the best memories from the last trip to Kauai was the helicopter tour. I was looking forward to that again, however, with all the rain they were not running the tours several of the days we were there. The last full day we were on the island looked like it was going to be rain free. There was a slight chance that the helicopters would be running so most of our group decided to schedule a slightseeing tour. Click here to see Helicopter photos. After the helicopter tour, we went to the Kilauae Lighthouse and Kilauae National Wildlife Refuge. The lighthouse was under construction, so we just photographed the crashing waves and seabirds.
