Oahu

On my previous trips to Hawaii, I had always wanted to see Pearl Harbor, but I never had the chance, since I was traveling alone and didn't know anything about getting around in the area. This trip, Jack and I went together. Traveling with someone you care about definitely makes the trip so much better. Before joining the tour, we started off the trip with a full day at Pearl Harbor. It definitely needs a full day (or better yet 2). We tried to see as much as possible. We started off with the USS Arizone Memorial, then the USS Missouri, and then the Pacific Aviation Museum, and then finished up with the USS Bowfin submarine and museum.. We definitely kept on the move. The following day, we had a few hours, so we headed back to Pearl Harbor and were able to get a few long shots of the USS Missouri, USS Arizona Memorial, and just explored the exhibit area. Then we headed off to the airport and on to join up with the tour on the next island...Maui.

Mark 37 Electric Torpedo
Mark 37 Electric Torpedo
"This high performance, submarine-launched weapon is considered to be the first successful 21-inch torpedo tube, to which it remained attached by a length of wire. The wire allowed the torpedo to be "steered" to the target from inside the submarine. The Mark 37 was also equipped with a sophisticated homing system which utilized both active and passive sonar. Several versions of this torpedo saw service in the US Navy from the late 1950s through the early 1980s before being replaced by the more advanced Mark 48. Weight-1,700 lbs, Length-13.5ft diameter-19 in"
