Alaska For sunset, we drove around for a while trying to find the perfect sunset location to shoot. As we were running out of time, we chose one location and then were asked to leave by the property owners. Although we were a little disappointed to begin with, we ended up finding a much better location to shoot. One of them ended up being a favorite from the trip. Here are a couple of the shots. On the way from Wasilla to Fairbanks, we were getting near Denali National Park. As we drove we saw some Lenticularius clouds over the mountains. When we got to Wasilla, we got our first sight of the Northern Lights. This would be the first of several nights of Northern Lights. The Northern Lights are more beautiful than you can image. Watching them move across the sky was fantastic. It was hard to concentrate on taking pictures while watching the lights dance around. We were extremely fortunate to have Northern Lights 4 out of 5 nights!!! Two of the nights had 2 auroral storms. It was incredible. Below are a few images I captured of the lights. While in Fairbanks, we were able to photograph a couple of sunsets at the Chena River State Recreation Area. Another sunset shot. This one was taken near the town of Fox. Sunset - Wasilla We had the opportunity to go to the Ice Sculpture Exhibit one evening. While in Fairbanks, we found that the GCI Open North American Championship races were taking place. And the start and finish line was right in front of our hotel. We were able to take a few shots of the dogs taking off, and Mark had arranged for us to go out to another location and get some shots of the dog sleds in the countryside. As we headed back to Anchorage, we saw Caribou in Denali National Park. As we arrived at the airport, I wasn't ready to leave Alaska. It was even more beautiful and exciting than I had imagined and I can't wait to go back! I met some great people, had a lot of fun and laughs, got to see wildlife, saw some beautiful landscapes, and was lucky enough to see 4 nights of the Northern Lights. From the time I got on the plane in Minneapolis until the time I stepped off the plane a week later, it was all a dream come true. Once again, Lightchase Photography had provided the perfect tour! Can't wait for the next one. |
