Oahu

On my previous trips to Hawaii, I had always wanted to see Pearl Harbor, but I never had the chance, since I was traveling alone and didn't know anything about getting around in the area. This trip, Jack and I went together. Traveling with someone you care about definitely makes the trip so much better. Before joining the tour, we started off the trip with a full day at Pearl Harbor. It definitely needs a full day (or better yet 2). We tried to see as much as possible. We started off with the USS Arizone Memorial, then the USS Missouri, and then the Pacific Aviation Museum, and then finished up with the USS Bowfin submarine and museum.. We definitely kept on the move. The following day, we had a few hours, so we headed back to Pearl Harbor and were able to get a few long shots of the USS Missouri, USS Arizona Memorial, and just explored the exhibit area. Then we headed off to the airport and on to join up with the tour on the next island...Maui.

"During World War II, the performance of US torpedoes was marked by numerous problems. The "tin fish" ran deeper than they were set, often ran erratically, and had defective exploder mechanisms in their warheads. It wasn't until late 1943, two years into the Pacific War, that the main problems were corrected and our submarines could go to sea with a reasonably effective primary weapon."
