Each year at Squaw Creek, approximately 300,000 - 400,000 snow geese are anticipated to come through the refuge.  The sights and sounds of this large number of birds is absolutely incredible.  Along with the snow geese, there are large number of different varieties of ducks and numerous other waterfowl.  As I'm  listening to the sounds and watching the snow geese, I know that the best is yet to come.  At Squaw Creek, we are privileged enough to be in the flight path for Bald Eagles.  During the month of December, there have been as many as 475 Bald Eagles on the Refuge.  Although this high of count is not normal, it is normal to have 200+ Bald Eagles on the Refuge during the month of December.  I have seen Bald Eagles at zoos, and they are normally injured birds that have been rescued and adopted by the zoos.  That sight cannot compare to watching these magnificent birds soar through the air over and around you.  All of the pictures here were taken from my automobile, as I traveled around the 10 mile auto tour.  If you ever have the opportunity to be near Squaw Creek, in November or December, I strongly recommend you take a few hours and take the auto tour.  You will be AMAZED!

Springtime brings a new variety of birds to Squaw Creek.  Click here to see a few pictures from the spring.
